John Post

We were excited to partner with John, a veteran CEO and CFO who has spent over 30 years driving transformational growth and leading cyber companies through their most critical junctures, to build a modern-day managed services provider for SMBs. John's track record of transforming and scaling successful businesses like Webroot and Alert Logic, background in cyber security, and familiarity with the MSP space and the SMB customers that they serve, make him the ideal leader for Propulsion. As an expert in navigating the rapidly changing field of cybersecurity, John is positioned to help perennially under-resourced and under-equipped SMBs protect and defend themselves - a mission he cares about deeply.

Small-to-medium sized businesses (“SMBs”) often lack the expertise and resources necessary to successfully deploy technology in their business and defend against cyber threats. I was energized by the opportunity to build a national managed service provider (“MSP”) platform to solve these problems and propel these businesses forward. We’re on a mission to help SMBs realize the full potential of technology!

John before Propulsion

Over the last 15 years prior to joining Propulsion, I’ve held a series of executive leadership roles in private equity-backed and publicly traded cybersecurity companies, primarily focused on the SMB market, including CFO of Webroot (endpoint protection), COO of Carbonite (endpoint protection and backup and data recovery solutions), and CFO and CEO of Alert Logic (managed detection and response platform). I bring a strong track record of transforming, scaling, and driving successful outcomes at these companies. My passion for the managed service provider ecosystem started at Webroot, where we successfully launched and scaled an SMB business that focused on MSPs as its primary route to market. In a prior life, I had a successful career in corporate and international tax planning with progressive roles at Ernst & Young, Deloitte Tax, First Data, MolsonCoors, and Dish Network. I earned a JD from the University of Colorado, School of Law, and a BA in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley.

Career Highlights

2021

Elevated to CEO of Alert Logic. Completed Alert Logic’s strategic pivot to a managed detection and response platform, re-established a growth trajectory, and led the company to a successful sale to Help Systems in 2022.

2019

Promoted to COO of Carbonite, where I assumed responsibility for integrating Webroot and Carbonite, and played a key role in the sale of Carbonite to OpenText in December 2019.

2009

Joined Webroot, where I enjoyed a long run as CFO, helping to lead the company through a transformation of its technology stack, product offerings, target markets and go-to-market motion, scaling the business from $100 million to $240 million of revenue when we sold the company to Carbonite in 2019.
